Record-Breaking FBI Bust: 150 Homemade Bombs Found in Virginia's Backyard!
On December 17, 2024, federal authorities arrested Brad Spafford, 36, of Smithfield, Virginia, after finding him in possession of more than 150 improvised explosives, including homemade bombs. It is the largest cache of explosives ever seized by the FBI.
During the investigation, explosives were found in a detached garage, as well as a bag in Spafford's bedroom. Among the items were jars of highly sensitive HMTD explosives stored in the refrigerator with food, a notebook containing bomb-making recipes, and disturbing references to political assassinations.
The investigation was prompted by a tip from a neighbor about Spafford's suspicious behavior, including an injury to his right hand from the use of homemade explosives. Reports have also emerged that he used footage of President Joe Biden to practice shooting and support political assassinations.
Spafford is charged with possession of an unregistered firearm, along with other charges of explosives. The discovery marks one of the largest explosives seizures in FBI history.
